Swans 10 - Trout 1

Went out in search of small creek Brown Trout and saw something I've never seen in the wild before, ten Trumpeter Swans. Thought this may be good luck sign that the fishing was going to be outstanding, boy were we wrong! Swan Lake Confirming Species - Trumpeter It Is!   Two and a half hours of fishing and all we came across was one small Brown Trout and disappeared as fast as it appeared on the end of old Georgey boys line. To boot, the only fish we see comes at the pool right next to the parking lot, I guess that's one way to end the day!   Regardless, sure felt great to get out and dust off the rust and step foot back into a creek after a long winter. Also didn't lose one single fly and with the amount of snags there are in this small creek this was a huge win. Let the 2019 fishing adventures commence!

Rain - Pain - GAINS

PART I - Rain Skinny Water Hunting     It's an early, rainy, windy September morning. A perfect time to re-introduce a friend to creek fishing, right? Right! In my mind it's the perfect weather to chase some Southern Alberta Brown Trout. However, I am not too sure my buddy was so keen when I arrived at his house at 7 am.   I give him a pump up speech about, "No Pain No Gain!" and how the weather is going to change during our two hour drive. I also distract him with the fact that we are going to be fishing private water that hasn't been touched since June. So he starts to come around, maybe it was the coffee that perked him up or maybe just maybe my solid story telling skills got the juices flowing. Regardless, we were on the road and what we were about do was worth the early start.  Since my buddy, Derek, has never been to this part of Alberta. I had to treat him to a warm up lap and see if he was WORTHY, ha ha, of "private water." So off

The above photo's are from June 2018 and as it's now April 2019 and the waters are quickly warming, I truly can't wait for the Golden Stone Fly's to start waking! Also got to get my brother his first Alberta Bull Trout on the fly, Sept. 2018, above, he was pretty stocked to say the least! George in his element chasing big Cutthroat Trout on size 18 BWO emerger pattern. He talked about this all winter long...was pretty cool I have to admit.
